I must have lost my mind briefly, what the hell was I thinking
? I actually agreed to go to the Ministry of Sound on New Year Eve. My friends and I were there at seven-thirty and there were at least a thousand people ahead of us in the queue. I suggested that we head to Double O instead but the rest voted to wait instead. Some two-and-a-half hours later, we were a handful of steps ahead of our original position
. It was of no consolation that the chap who was early lamented not queuing up first as the crowd was supposedly considerably smaller at seven pm.
(It was the first time I took the MRT-NEL to Clarke Quay and the nearest exit to the stretch of clubs had ninety steps and no escalator or lift. WTF? Is that a ploy to induce thirst in the lubbers?
)
I had enough and I made sure that my message got through. We eased our way out and proceeded to Double O. THERE WAS NO FREAKING QUEUE AT DOUBLE O! Well, to be exact, there were a lot of people lining up for entry to Double O but nobody waiting for entry to O Bar. Normally, obtaining the stamp for O Bar would not grant permission to enter Double O (the second level) but yesterday was an exception so we gladly breezed in
.
I gulped down two Barcardis and two beers before they settled on their drinks. The five of them split a bottle of vodka and passed me a few drinks. In this clique, only one person can drink more than I can. I do not think it a blessing to have a relatively high alcohol tolerance level, since I need more drinks to get high, and more drinks = more money spent
. After much goading, I did a stupid dance multiple times successfully to prove my sobriety
. The table next to us quite enjoyed it and gave me a shot of vodka on the house
. Pity it was too dark for there to be visibility in the photos, I would have posted one or two of them here. Sheesh, as if I did not have enough alcohol already.
The dance hall/floor was totally packed and I bailed out after a while. The crowd was shoulder to shoulder and there was hardly any space to dance. I took a breather at the bar with a friend and a Caucasian gave us Bourbon Cokes
. I just about had enough alcohol for the night but after some taunting, finished my drink at one go. We excused ourselves and staggered towards the exit after he popped a champagne bottle
.
The fresh air outside was much appreciated and I had some Bak Kut Teh at the nearby coffeeshop. Along the way, I also picked up some cigarettes. They quite complement alcohol in getting one stoned. For the record, I am a non-smoker, I think I had less than thirty cigarettes for the whole of last year. It must have been after two am that the other four fellas realised that we were not there and called us. We left soon after as the alcohol caught up with us and we did not want to be caught with the rest of the crowd during closing time. Even at that hour, we had difficulty booking a cab.
Anyway, 2006 will be better than 2005, since I am already off to a good start in 2006 with such an enjoyable night out
.
Edit: Was that really me?
Next Morning (wtf were these doing with me?):
